The immense mausoleum covered with white marble was built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by decree of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, in memory of his beloved wife Arjumand Banu Begum, her nickname: Mumtaz Mahal.
The "crown of buildings" is the symbol of the Indian nation.
